Lesson 2 Spelling
ORE SHEETS:
|
Children to learn spellings from sheet. LOOK/SAY/COVER/WRITE/ CHECK Complete the ‘ore’ word search and make a list of other words that contain the ‘ore’ trigraph. Recap the concept of a trigraph as one sound consisting of three letters. Underline or highlight the ‘ore’ trigraph in each applicable word and make a note of the ‘ore’ position in each word. Can you spot them all? Can you think of any alternative spelling patterns that make the same sound as ‘ore’?
Reintroduce the concept of a suffix as coming at the end of words. Convert the verbs at the foot of the page into the past tense, e.g. change ‘walk’ becomes ‘walked’. Can you make a list of verbs where it is more complicated than simply just adding –ed? For example, ‘jog’ would become ‘jogged’ with a double consonant or ‘go’ would become ‘went’. |
Directly onto sheet or in exercise book. |

Lesson 3
|
Children to use sheet to plan a story.
Use the planning sheet ‘Changing a Traditional Story Plan’ for the beginning, middle and end. Follow the structure of a traditional story whilst still making it your own version.
Firstly, focus on the beginning by introducing the setting and characters with some adjectives for description.
Secondly, build up to a problem which needs to be solved. This should be the main and probably longest part of the story.
Thirdly, a solution is reached and everything is wrapped up by the end of the traditional story.
Ensure plenty of description with adjectives as well as the correct usage of capital letters and full stops in your neatest handwriting. |
