Lesson 1 ‘Hansel and Gretel’
|
To discuss and sequence the story of ‘Hansel and Gretel’. Read through the text picking out key points. Discuss any unfamiliar vocabulary and make a note of its meaning. Whilst referring back to the text, sequence the events in chronological order. Write a caption for each event. Ensure correct usage of capital letters and full stops. |

Lesson 2 Spelling

Children to learn spellings from sheet. LOOK/SAY/COVER/WRITE/ CHECK Sort the words containing ‘air’ graphemes whilst applying your neatest handwriting. Underline or highlight the graphemes and make a note of the position in each word.
Sort the ‘real’ and ‘nonsense’ words in your neatest handwriting. Make a note of any unfamiliar vocabulary and its meaning.
Look at the ‘air’ and ‘un’ prefix slideshow. Remember the multiple alternative spelling patterns, such as ‘ear’ and ‘are’ from the first activity. Notice that the ‘air’ trigraphs often comes at the end of words.
Introduce the concept of a prefix coming at the beginning/in front of a root word. This changes the meaning of the root word. When ‘un’ is used as a prefix, it often changes the root word to have the opposite meaning, e.g. ‘fair’ becomes ‘unfair’. Complete the activity at the foot of the page in your neatest handwriting whilst underlining or highlighting the prefix ‘un’ in each case. Can you make a list of root words where the prefix ‘un’ cannot be used to create the opposite meaning? For example, ‘complete’ becomes ‘incomplete’.

Lesson 3
|
Children to use sheet to plan a story.
Use the planning sheet ‘Hansel and Gretel Story Plan’ for the beginning, middle and end. Follow the structure of a traditional story whilst still making it your own version.
Firstly, focus on the beginning by introducing the setting and characters with some adjectives for description.
Secondly, build up to a problem which needs to be solved. This should be the main and probably longest part of the story.
Thirdly, a solution is reached and everything is wrapped up by the end of the traditional story.
Ensure plenty of description with adjectives as well as the correct usage of capital letters and full stops in your neatest handwriting. |

Lessons 4 & 5 Final Version

Children to write, improve and complete a final version of their traditional story.
Please refer to page 2 of the planning and writing frames as planning is already complete. Write your own story in a similar style to the traditional story. Use your plan and the slideshow for support as well as the example and word bank. Ensure plenty of description with adjectives as well as the correct usage of capital letters and full stops in your neatest handwriting. |

To label the parts of a plant. |
Remind your child about the topic of plants. Go outside/look at pictures of plants and trees. Can they name the parts? Can they tell you what they are for? Show the children the PowerPoint PDF of parts of a flower and the parts of a tree PDF. Discuss these different parts and their different jobs. Children to label the parts of a plant and the parts of a tree on the provided worksheets. Draw your own favourite flower and tree and write a paragraph comparing the tree with the flowering plant.

To understand that Christians show God that he is special to them through worship. |
Explain to children that Christians are very thankful to God because they believe that everything they have and everything have achieved is because of him. To show him they are thankful, they worship God. Explain that the Church is very special to Christians and they often go there to worship God. Children are to discuss people and places that are special to them and why.
Afterwards, draw and label special people and places and explain why they are so special to you.

To explore a country.
|
Children will explore a country in Europe. This can be any country of particular interest. They will have the opportunity to create a detailed information page about their nation of choice. In the top right hand corner, they can begin by colouring in an accurate representation of their country’s national flag. In essence, it is a research project which can be done with the support of an Atlas, map and computer. At the foot of the page, there are three lines to include some other amazing facts about their chosen country.
