CHECK

Spot ‘or’ phonemes whilst reading ‘The Unicorn’ text. Underline or highlight them and make a note of the ‘or’ position in each word. Can you spot them all? Can you think of any alternative spelling patterns that make the same sound as ‘or’?

Sort the ‘real’ and ‘nonsense’ words in your neatest handwriting. Make a note of any unfamiliar vocabulary and its meaning.

Look at the ‘or’ and –ing slideshow. Notice the multiple alternative spelling patterns, such as ‘au’ and ‘aw’.

Reintroduce the concept of a suffix as coming at the end of words. Convert the verbs at the foot of the page into the present participle, e.g. change ‘go’ becomes ‘going’. Can you make a list of verbs where it is more complicated than simply just adding 'ing'

LESSON 3

A DARK, DARK TALE EXAMPLE

A DARK, DARK TALE STORY PLAN

Children to use sheet to plan a story.

Firstly, focus on describing the setting using the same structure of the ‘dark, dark tale’ whereby the setting goes from a large area to a decreasingly smaller setting, e.g. haunted house, spooky bedroom, dark corner, wooden box.

Secondly, focus on a character description. Who or what is your character? Think about appearance and personality. Remember to apply your neatest handwriting and include capital letters and full stops in the correct places, as well as adjectives, for description.

PLANTS SORTING

ACTIVITY

To sort trees and flowers.

Tell your child they will be exploring a new topic – plants. Can they go into the garden/around the house and find any flowers and trees? How can they tell the difference? Use the photos provided to ask the children if they are flowers or trees. Worksheet: Ask your child to cut out the small images at the bottom of the sheet and sort them onto the grid – trees or plants.  Write a caption to describe each plant and tree. Can you research your favourite plan or tree and write some key facts?

Ensure plenty of description with adjectives as well as the correct usage of capital letters and full stops in your neatest handwriting.

NEW LIFE SCAVENGER HUNT

To recognise that symbols are used to represent key aspects of Easter .

Easter is all about the celebration of life and, in particular, new life. There are many symbols that represent Easter in our natural environment (not just the eggs or hot cross buns that I am sure we have all very much enjoyed). It resembles the beginning of Spring and the changes that come with that. This week, your challenge is to go on a ‘New Life Scavenger Hunt’ during your daily walk, run, bike ride or scoot. How many signs of new life can you find?

Ensure application of their neatest handwriting.
