Lesson 2 Spelling

Children to learn spellings from sheet. LOOK/SAY/COVER/WRITE/ CHECK Spot ‘a_e’ split digraphs whilst reading postcard. Underline or highlight them and make a note of the digraph’s position in each word. Can you spot them all? Can you think of any alternative spelling patterns that make the same sound as ‘a_e’?
Complete the ‘a_e’ word search and make a list of other words that contain the ‘a_e’ grapheme. Recap the concept of a digraph as one sound consisting of two letters. Underline or highlight the ‘a_e’ split digraph in each applicable word and make a note of the ‘a_e’ position in each word. Can you spot them all? Can you think of any alternative spelling patterns that make the same sound as ‘a_e’? For example, ‘ai’ in ‘rain’ as well as ‘ay’ in ‘play’ etc. |

Lesson 3 Planning

Children to use sheet to plan a character description.
Recap ‘Davy Jones (the Pirate)’ and consider him as a character. Focus on four different elements: appearance, personality, likes and dislikes. Remember to include at least one adjective in every sentence whilst applying capital letters and full stops in the correct spaces.
Systematically, work through one section at a time to ensure you are completely focused on that specific element in your description. |

Lessons 4 & 5 Final Version
|
Children to write, improve and complete a final version of their character description.
Firstly, include a brief introduction, e.g. Davy Jones is an interesting pirate. Although very different to Captain Hook, he is an important part of the ship.
Secondly, work through each paragraph whilst focusing on appearance and personality as well as likes and dislikes with plenty of adjectives for description.
Thirdly, include a brief conclusion to frame the character description, e.g. With so many wonderful qualities, Davy Jones is an important part of the ship.
Remember to include at least one adjective in every sentence whilst applying capital letters and full stops in the correct spaces. |

To save money.
Talk to your child about what you might use money for. Can they name any coins? Explain that sometimes it is a good idea to save money so that you can buy something better than spending it all on sweets/small toys etc. Revise the different coins and notes in circulation in UK. Discuss with your child what they would choose to buy if they had £100. Would they choose to buy something they need or want? Sort the needs (things to stay alive, healthy and safe) and wants in a separate list. Next, spend time with your child planning a party – what food and drinks would they buy with a budget of £10? Include healthy food and as much detail as possible. Afterwards, explain that they have created a budget for their party so that they will not overspend. |

Music |
To sing a song. (To learn to play note B on the recorder, if possible).
The website offers exciting online music learning for children and young people. There is a wide variety of contemporary digital resources for instrumental and primary music teaching and learning. We would normally be learning to play note B on the recorder at school. If you have a recorder, please click on ‘KS1 Recorder World’ and follow step 3 ‘Lost Forest’.
Last session, you will have the next step for the recorder ‘Gluttonberry Festival’. Click on the orange 1 just below ‘Bong Beach’. Activity 1 is ‘Left Up Rap’ by the start sign and you can work your way around the course to the finish line from there.
If you do not have a recorder, please click on ‘Working at Home with Yumu – in 3 easy steps’. Next, click ‘Ages 5-6: Your Imagination’. Here, you will continue to learn to sing ‘Your Imagination’. Please continue through the steps to learn to sing the song ‘Your Imagination’. |

Geography

To explore a country.
Children will explore a country in Africa. This can be any country of particular interest. They will have the opportunity to create a detailed information page about their nation of choice. In the top right hand corner, they can begin by colouring in an accurate representation of their country’s national flag. In essence, it is a research project which can be done with the support of an Atlas, map and computer. At the foot of the page, there are three lines to include some other amazing facts about their chosen country. |
