Lesson 2 Spelling

SPELLINGS

AU SPOTTER

REAL OR NOT

AU GRAPHEME & EST SUFFIX

Children to learn spellings from sheet.

LOOK/SAY/COVER/WRITE/

CHECK

Spot ‘au’ digraphs whilst reading the postcard. Underline or highlight them and make a note of the ‘au’ position in each word. Can you spot them all? Can you think of any alternative spelling patterns that make the same sound as ‘au’?

Sort the ‘real’ and ‘nonsense’ words in your neatest handwriting. Make a note of any unfamiliar vocabulary and its meaning.

Look at the slideshow regarding the ‘au’ digraph and how it often comes in the middle of words.

Reintroduce the concept of a suffix as coming at the end of words. Convert the positive adjectives at the foot of the page into the superlative form, e.g. change ‘quick’ becomes ‘quickest’. Can you make a list of adjectives where it is more complicated than simply just adding –est? For example, ‘beautiful’ becomes ‘most beautiful’ and ‘naughty’ becomes ‘naughtiest’ whereby the ‘y’ becomes an ‘i’.

Planning Sheet

PLANNING A RECOUNT

RECOUNT

PLANNING TEMPLATE

Children to use sheet to plan a recount of a typical day during half term.

Remind children of the past tense and how often the suffix ‘ed’ is used at the end of verbs to demonstrate that events have already happened.

Follow the planning sheet and populate the different sections with details in the correct chronological order. Sentence starters and conjunctions are in the slideshow for support. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and finish each sentence with a full stop.

Work systematically through your recount whilst using the slideshow for support.

Remember to write in the past tense whilst applying capital letters and full stops in the correct spaces as well as your neatest handwriting.

Directly onto sheet or in exercise book.

WRITING A RECOUNT

WRITING FRAME

Children to write, improve and complete a final version of their recount.

Work systematically through your recount whilst using your plan and the word bank of sentence starters and conjunctions for support.

Remember to write in the past tense whilst applying capital letters and full stops in the correct spaces as well as your neatest handwriting. Always look to improve your plan with the use of a dictionary to correct spellings and a thesaurus for better synonyms.

In exercise book or on paper attached.

Foundation

Computing

To recognise common uses of information technology beyond school.

Recap previous minibeast task. Repeat but this time create a presentation on a variety of mammals. This week the challenge is to add in a fact about the mammal. Children are then encouraged to order their animals, by using drag and drop, by height or length.

Ensure that capital letters and full stops are applied correctly.

Physical Education

To work successfully as a team and begin developing the skills needed for a relay race.

Set up your own family relay race. Ensure children understand the distance between each person is equal, that you have to safely pass the baton to your team mate and use communication so that they know you are ready to pass the baton on.

Afterwards, perform a systematic cool down. Work your way down your body from head to toe whilst paying particularly close attention to your arms and legs when stretching. Hold each stretch for 30 seconds and remember to stretch both sides of the body.
