QCF
South Farnham Teaching School is a registered City & Guilds Training Centre delivering the QCF Level 3 Certificate: Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools to offer professional development for Classroom Assistants.
While other providers offer this qualification as a Level 3 Award at a cheaper cost, only 4 units (an equivalence of 12 credits) are given over a teaching period of 90 learning hours. At South Farnham, the Level 3 Certificate is delivered through tutorials and workshops, covering all eleven units (the equivalence of 32 credits) through a teaching period of 180 learning hours over 9 months.
The sessions will be held here on Wednesday afternoons from 4.15 – 5.15pm throughout the year. Each candidate has an Assessor who guides them through the course and meets with their candidates for one-to-one sessions interspersed among the more formal tutorials. Candidates will need to compile a Portfolio of paper-based evidence against all of the criteria for each of the Units. They will be observed in their working environment by their Assessor and there is a requirement for class teachers to provide Witness Statements relating to their Teaching Assistant’s performance.
The Units covered are as follows:-
Communication and Professional Relationships |
Developing Professional Relationships |

Schools as Organisations |
Promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion |
Understanding Children’s Development |
Supporting Learning Activities |
Supporting Assessment for Learning |
