The children have access to purpose-built art and music facilities as part of their curriculum studies and wider enrichment, including:

  • Six dedicated art rooms
  • Two sprung-floor studios with mirrors
  • Dedicated whole-class music teaching spaces
  • Full theatrical stage facilities at each site
  • Individual music practice rooms for peripatetic music lessons

Our carefully planned curriculum ensures progression and coverage and intends that children will develop into happy, confident and independent individuals with a secure foundation in learning that will last throughout their lives.

Art & Design

At South Farnham School, our art and design curriculum has been carefully constructed to:

  • Engage, inspires and challenge all pupils.
  • Equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, create their own works of art, craft and design.
  • Encourage children to think critically to develop a rigorous understanding of the subject as well as understanding how art and design has shaped our history and contributed to culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Each pupil studies art and design through dedicated, timetabled lessons which cover the aims and objectives from the National Curriculum. Throughout their studies, pupils will explore a diverse range of artists, creating and evaluating work in a variety of different mediums including both 2D and 3D artwork.

In addition to pupils' dedicated art and design lessons, a diverse range of clubs run each term enriching all aspects of the curriculum. Music

Our music curriculum is designed to increase self-confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement. High-quality teaching and resources inspire children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians. Children develop a critical engagement with music enabling them to compose and to listen with discrimination to the best music the world of music has to offer.

Music is an integral and firmly embedded part of life at South Farnham School. Pupils have an extensive range of opportunities to participate in the practice and study of music including dedicated whole- class music lessons each week, daily singing as part of assemblies, annual participation in a full-scale musical theatre production and regular exposure to inspirational music content via our video walls.

For pupils with a heightened interest or aptitude for music, there are flourishing choirs that rehearse each week across both sites, access to individual or small group music tuition to enable pupils to develop proficiency in an instrument of their choice, additional public performance opportunities throughout the week and a diverse range of clubs and activities that are open to all pupils.

A variety of music tuition is available from our instrumental teachers through our strong and long-established partnership with Surrey Arts. At present, over 150 children receive individual music tuition across a wide range of instruments. For further information about music tuition available, please contact the school office or contact Surrey Arts directly.
